Dubai Municipality Exam for Electrical Engineer

Hello friends,

Dubai municipality conducts an interview and written test for technical staff(Engineers) of the contractors in Dubai. It is a necessary thing if your company (contractor) have to validate a technical activity in the trade license to do contracting/technical works in Dubai (which includes Civil & Electrical works )

I am an Electrical Engineer and I have attended this exam twice. I was disqualified the first time I attended this exam. Actually, it was very easy. I failed it because I didn't know about the syllabus or pattern of questions which was about to ask. I searched everywhere on the internet and asked many friends and colleagues about the exam syllabus & pattern, but nobody knew anything regarding the syllabus of this exam. So I had to attend it without any clue about the exam syllabus. And without surprise, I failed. But I got a chance to learn from my mistake, and I did pretty well in the second exam. So now I want to help those who are going to attend this exam without any clue like me. The document that helped me to win this test was the DEWA regulations for electrical installations 1997 edition. This is the link where you can download it.
http://www.iiee-uae.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/DEWA-Regulations-for-Elect-Insatallations-1997-Edition.pdf

Now there is a new edition of DEWA regulations for electrical installations 2017 edition. This is the link where you can download it:
https://www.dewa.gov.ae/~/media/DEWA%20Regulations%20for%20Electrical%20Installations%20%202017%20Edition.ashx

For the first exam, there was forty(40) multiple choice questions which were all about regulations followed by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for Electrical Installations. You can cover most of the questions if you study the DEWA regulation document thoroughly.

For the second exam, there were only thirty(30) multiple choice questions, which was also all about the regulations followed by DEWA, but the syllabus was not completely included in the
DEWA regulation document. Out of thirty questions, eighteen(18) was asked from the DEWA regulation document and rest was about a similar subject like lighting, dimensions of the substation, fire alarm systems etc.

I was qualified in the second exam, so I don't know what will be the questions for the third time.

You have to score seventy percentage(70%) to qualify in this exam. Most of the questions for this exam will be about the common regulations that are followed in the emirate of Dubai, like "what is the acceptable power factor of an installation" or "what is the maximum number of sockets allowed in a ring circuit", etc. So if you have experience in electrical fitting in Dubai, you can easily pass this exam. Or you can qualify this if you study the
DEWA regulation document good enough.

If you get qualified in this exam, your company will be approved by Dubai Municipality to do Electrical Fit-out/Contracting activity mentioned in the Commercial trade license issued by Economic Department of Dubai.

This exam is applied online through Dubai Municipality web portal, and the cost of this exam was AED 400 which is also paid online.

You have to upload the following documents to apply for the exam through the Dubai municipality portal.
1) Degree certificate attested by Ministry of foreigners affairs.
2) Society of Engineers membership card copy(or an undertaking letter promising to submit this within one month or so)
3) Trade license of your company
4) Copy of your passport and visa
5) NOC from your sponsor/company.
Complete details of the application are given in this link:

 https://portal.dm.gov.ae/SCWebUI/datadetails.aspx?servicecode=3391&DeptId=19

Also, you have to bring all original documents and its one set copies to attend the exam.

The results are published mostly on the same day you write the exam but may get delayed.

I have posted a
Model question paper for the exam as a new post in this same blog since I am getting emails & comments asking for the question patterns regularly. Please note that those questions shown are just for you to get a basic idea about the question patterns which may ask in the exam. You have to study the DEWA regulation document completely if you want to succeed in this exam.

I hope this post was helpful and not too long.

Good luck friends.
